    Performance Sportswear Designer | Garment Technologist

    My client is a leading UK supplier in Gymnastics & Fashion Sportswear wear, due to current growth in their team they are now seeking a Sportswear Designer with expert creative skills who feel they can offer something to their fun team. They are seeking an individual with a passion for design with lots of drive and enthusiasm, ideally with previous experience in a similar role. You will need to demonstrate a proven track record, have an excellent design portfolio and be ready for a new challenge.

    The successful candidate’s time would be split between the manufacturing facility in Preston and at their parent company, in Altrincham , one of Europe’s largest printers and distributors of stretch fabrics. You would be working for a fully vertical manufacturing group where products are designed, printed and manufactured in the Northwest. They are a well-established brand in the world of gymnastics with clients ranging from small clubs to Olympic Teams. The work is fast paced and challenging with opportunities to grow within the company for the right candidate.

    They are seeking a technical designer with creative flair, a passion for design and lots of drive and enthusiasm. Previous experience is essential, ideally in the sportswear industry. You will have an excellent design portfolio and be ready for a new challenge.

    The Role

    On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for designing, editing and grading various sportswear garments including girls/boys’ leotards, tracksuits, t-shirts and cheer designs. Many designs include printed elements so a knowledge of working with print would be an advantage.

    About you

    Essential Skills /Experience:

    • An understanding of pattern-cutting, garment construction and manufacture.
    • Technical grading skills.
    • Experience using computer grading systems (Assyst, Gerber, Lectra etc)
    • Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop & Illustrator.
    • Fashion Design degree or similar.
    • Commitment to professional development.
    • Self-motivated and reliable.
    • Works with initiative and interacts well with others.
    • Strong time management skills.

    Preferred Skills / Experience

    • Experience of Assyst Bullmer CAD system.
    • Previous experience in designing performance or activewear.
    • Understanding of technical performance fabrics/trims within the target market.
    • Print design experience.
    • Experience of designing / producing and updating product specification sheets throughout the design & production process. Knowledge of product and manufacture.
